Digital Soldering Stations
Early soldering irons did not have the ability to control the temperature of the tip. It would heat to a set point, and then shut off and the temperature was maintained by the iron cycling off and on. Hardly an efficient way of soldering.
As soldering demands became more precise, being able to accuraly maintain a stable tip temperature to avoid cold joints was a necessity.
Today’s digital soldering stations control the temp of the iron temp by passing current through a controller and a device then constantly monitors the temp of the tip and regulates the current to keep the temperature in the range that the operator set it to.
Of course the advancement in design increased the cost of a standard digital soldering station but if the job being worked on demands a set temp, the cost is far outweighed by the quality of the soldering pieces.
In reality, the cost is very affordable because you can usually pickup a good digital soldering station for under $100 that will work for most home hobbyist. Of course the industrial versions go for more, but we have found the best deals for online suppliers and we’ve also included auctions for stations that you can bid on.
Below are the current listings on eBay. If you see one that appeals to you bid on it or type what your looking for into the search bar and you will be shown those items that are available right now on eBay.
